My mom, Nee Nee, and I took FLAT KINSEY to her first Waco Cultural Arts Festival. We had so much fun doing crafts and exploring downtown Waco. She even got to see the historic Waco Suspension Bridge over the Brazos River. The bridge was completed in 1870. The bridge was a Chisholm Trail crossing, and was the longest single-span suspension bridge west of the Mississippi when it was completed. The bridge was built with cable supplied by the John Roebling Co., who built the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. The longhorn sculptures commemorate the crossing where cowpunchers paid a toll of five cents a head to cross the Brazos River.
